Biden's Odds Dipping in 2020 Dem Race |
Former Vice President Joe Biden continues to be the top pick for the Democratic nomination for president among Democrats and Democratic-leaning registered voters, according to a new CNN poll conducted by SSRS, but his support has faded some since just after the official launch of his campaign.
The poll finds 32 percent support Mr. Biden, down from 39 percent saying they supported him in an April CNN poll. That survey was fielded in the days immediately following Biden's formal entry into the race. Since then, the former vice president has been running with an eye toward protecting his early advantages, making fewer public appearances than his fellow candidates.
With that said, none of the other candidates have shown notable gains in the last month.
Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) continues to stand alone in second place with 18 percent, followed by California Sen. Kamala Harris with 8 percent, Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) at 7 percent and 5 percent each for South Bend, Indiana, Mayor Pete Buttigieg and former Rep. Beto O'Rourke (D-TX). New Jersey Sen. Cory Booker comes in with three percent support, with former Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Julián Castro and Minnesota Sen. Amy Klobuchar at two percent each.
The remaining 14 candidates tested in the poll landed at one percent or less.
Here is a snapshot of the top five candidates in our 2020 Democratic nomination market:
- Joe Biden at 29 percent
- Bernie Sanders at 18 percent
- Pete Buttigieg at 15 percent
- Elizabeth Warren at 12 percent
- Kamala Harris at 11 percent

Mueller to Have Little Impact on 2020? |
|
For over two years, Washington has been consumed by Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election, but looking ahead to 2020, the lion’s share of voters are shrugging at his findings.
A new Morning Consult/Politico poll, conducted May 31 - June 2 among 1,997 registered voters after Mr. Mueller spoke publicly for the first time to describe the conclusions of his investigation, found 49 percent said the Mueller probe will not impact their decision about whether or not to vote for President Donald Trump next year.
Since taking office in 2017, views on the president’s job performance remain extremely stable, with the vast majority of his supporters and detractors entrenched in opposing camps.
Democrats had hoped Mr. Mueller’s findings would dent that trend.
His public remarks appear to have made little impact on the president’s approval: 43 percent approved of his job performance and 54 percent disapproved this week, compared with 42 percent approving and 56 percent disapproving from the survey two weeks prior. Both of those figures are within the polls’ margins of error of two percentage points.
In PredictIt's 2020 presidential election market, President Trump's chances off winning re-election are 41 percent. |
